Our main focus is to develop novel optical spectroscopy and mass spectrometry techniques to overcome challenges encountered in the chemical analysis of relevant materials and biological systems.

Congratulations to Kevin Finch on receiving the prestigious Richard Payling Prize, from the European Working Group on Glow Discharge Spectroscopy, at the International Glow Discharge Spectroscopy Symposium 2022. It is a biennial internationally competitive award established in 2005. “The Payling Prize is given in recognition of outstanding work in the field of Analytical Glow Discharge…awarded to a young scientist who gives the best presentation during a meeting…” Kevin is only the 2nd person from a US institution who has won the award since it’s inception.

Congratulations to Dong Zhang for being selected to receive a 2022 ASMS Graduate Student Travel Award to attend the 70^th ASMS conference in Minneapolis, June 2022. “The ASMS Graduate Student Award recognizes graduate students whose academic achievements and current mass spectrometry research display a high level of excellence and distinction.” He will recognized in a ceremony at the conference. According to the ASMS website this is the first travel award to a graduate student at Texas Tech University from the years listed (from 2015).

Prof. Gamez is selected to receive the 2020 Winter Conference Young Scientist Award in Plasma Spectrochemistry sponsored by Thermo Fisher Scientific. The award “recognizes achievements in conceptualization and development of novel instrumentation as well as the elucidation of fundamental events or processes involved in plasma spectrochemistry” and also “authorship of significant research papers or books that have had an influential role in new advancements as well as outstanding applications that open new fields of use for plasma spectrochemistry”. The award will be presented at the Conference during the awards session in January 2020. Congratulations!
